1966 Buenos Aires

I started attending a new school in a new country. I remember this being a good experience. We also started crafting toy puppies to sell in the street with my sister, we were 6 and 10 years old. Mom worked in a hair salon and her new husband was laying in bed all day with Lumbago. Things were good at first, he worked at a gas station until he hurt his back, then all fell apart again. We must go back home to Montevideo, this was one rough year!

My mind is cloudy about the next two years, we went through a lot! I guess blocking this memories might be healthy. Lets just say this guy wasn’t so nice after all and my mom and I fell victim to his manipulation and sick mind. We must start over at grandma’s house. I really loved her! She was good to me, she always protected me but mom and her didn’t see eye to eye.

1970- New York! We are here, a new beginning! Mom is pregnant again and we are here all alone. She can’t find work and we are broke! Should we go back home?  Yes, we are going to take a taxi and go to the airport. Wait! This ad here says if you need help call this number, let’s do that.  Ok, someone is coming to help us, this is a great country! This man shows up, he is friendly, black and has blue eyes! I had never seen that before. He calls the taxi and we leave. Where is he taking us? The driver wants and address to drive to and he gets one but when we arrive the place is abandoned and the driver asks the man to get out and walk up the street to find the location, immediately he locks the doors and takes off with us in the cab. What just happened? The driver is asking my mom if she knows this guy, no she doesn’t. Now she is crying, so scare, please drive us to the airport now!  The driver says she shouldn’t quit so easily, we are in NY! He asks my mom if he can help us and she agrees, now we are going to Brooklyn, to meet his sister. Is this man an angel?

When we get there his sister is very friendly and takes us in, the next day mom gets hospitalized, her blood pressure is very high and the baby is at risk.

I am so scare! I want to go home! Who are this people? They are very nice but I want my mother. Six weeks later mom comes home with our new sister.  I must help and grow up fast. No time for games! She needs help and I’m the oldest of the  three girls. Mom works hard and very long hours. We need to find a place to live fast
